ISPM-15 Guidelines

International Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15

ISPM-15 Free of Plant Pests

ISPM-15 guidelines for regulating wood packaging material in international trade.

The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has issued guidelines on how to treat wood materials used to ship products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transportation and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems.

Long-horned beetle and other termites.

ISPM-15 affects all wooden packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) requiring that they be debarked and then heat-treated or fumigated and stamped with a mark of compliance.

In order to avoid complications with import, several companies require non-wood packaging from their suppliers. Today ISPM-15 regulations have been implemented in numerous countries around the world including the European Union and the United States.

Avoid extra handling and treatment costs, use carton board packaging.
