More and more brands are seeking to know if a product is sustainable to be compliant in contributing to the preservation of the environment and the well-being of individuals, before considering the purchase. ...but do we know what leads a product to be considered sustainable?
There is misinformation or confusion between being recyclable and being sustainable.
Recyclability plays a key part in the sustainability cycle, because it refers to the responsible handling of waste, where the product after use will be reused, recycled, or re-purposed, keeping the environment clean, and people and animals healthy – but recyclable products are not always sustainable.
One of the many reasons is the fact that they need a special recycling process that can only be found in very rare locations.
Sustainable design is the way
For a product to be considered sustainable, it must be possible to produce or use it in a way that does not result in destruction, it must come from renewable raw materials, and it must not cause harm to the environment, individuals, or society. In summary:
- A sustainable product is made from renewable resources, which cannot be exhausted
- Its production and distribution uses minimal energy and responsibly disposes of waste. Environmentally conscious companies strive to minimize environmental impact
- Its production is done in a socially responsible way, with fair and equal employment, and concern for the health, well-being, and success of its employees
At Eltete we think beyond the product. We operate with care and respect for the environment but also the individuals to produce sustainable solutions, from the choice of raw material to the end of its life cycle.
Sustainable transport packaging in all stages
The development and production of our products are based on our motto 3Rs-Reduce, Replace, Recycle, and from it, we optimize our solutions to go through all stages of their life cycle with the commitment to minimize their impact on the environment and society.
1 - DESIGN
The design of our products plays a key role when comes to achieving sustainable, social, and economical goals. It takes into consideration the entire life cycle of the product from the choice of raw material to the end of its use, always complying with all relevant environmental regulations and legislation.
2 - SOURCING OF RAW MATERIALS
All raw materials used are locally available and are from renewable resources certified with e.g.: FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), the leader in sustainable forest management, operating the world’s most rigorous and trusted forest certification system.
3 - MANUFACTURING
We are continuously improving our production lines and methods to reduce energy consumption in our production processes as well as operating costs. The carbon footprint in the production of our products can be up to 96% lower than traditional materials and 99% of our production waste is recycled.
4 - DISTRIBUTION
Our production chain is strategically located to make the distance to customers as short as possible. The carbon footprint is also significantly reduced as our products are extremely lightweight.
5 - PRODUCT USE
Our products are versatile. They can be reused or given another purpose (entirely or part of it) without any treatment. E.g., as feet under store displays or as shelves, cushioning for goods during transport, etc.
6 - END OF LIFE CYCLE
Most of the waste thrown away ends up either in landfills or accumulated on land, or in the ocean, compromising the wild and human lives. Our products are designed and developed to be easily reused, re-purposed, or easily recycled with any other cardboard material.
Another aspect of sustainability is economics. Economically sustainable businesses work and strive for other businesses to compete, prosper, and save money. Our mission is to bring and share knowledge of sustainable alternatives for all businesses that need transport packaging to operate more environmentally and economically friendly.
